Hundreds of Shia mourners defied curfew in Shalimar area of Srinagar on Thursday.

Today is the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain (RA), the fourth Shia Imam, also known as Zain-ul-Abideen.

Restrictions had been imposed in Shalimar area Srinagar where a procession was scheduled to be held. People from across Kashmir had managed reach the area around Fajr Namaz.

This is first time in the last four decades that restrictions have been imposed on this occasion in the area, a Shia mourner claimed.

Reports said that forces had put massive restrictions and blocked all the roads leading to the venue.

However, Shia mourners took out the procession from Aarbal to Aliabad in the Shalimar locality.
