Terming the statements of the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party’s leadership in India as an “ostrich syndrome”, Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said that the assertions of the BJP leaders about keeping the people of Kashmir out from the process of resolution of Kashmir issue is not going to change the political and historical importance or the disputed nature of Kashmir as it is not an administrative, electoral or a law and order issue but an internationally accepted political issue involving the future of the people.

Addressing a massive gathering at the Jamia Masjid, Srinagar before the Friday congregational prayers, Mirwaiz, while referring to the BJP leadership, said ignoring the people of Kashmir in any resolution process would not only be against the universally accepted political norms but would be in contravention to the principals of human dignity which would not be acceptable to the people of Kashmir.

Mirwaiz called upon the BJP leadership to come out of its “self illusions” about Kashmir and while understanding the fundamental political as well as historical realities about Kashmir should adopt realistic policy and initiate a meaningful dialogue with the people of Kashmir and Pakistan for the resolution of Kashmir issue.

Describing the BJP Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement in Jammu that people of Kashmir had no role to play in the resolution of Kashmir issue, as his ignorance on the subject the Hurriyat chairperson said that this issue involves the political future and aspirations of the people which can’t be taken for granted.

Expressing astonishment over the hue and cry raised by certain BJP quarters over the invitation of Pakistan High Commissioner to Hurriyat leadership for an Iftaar party, Mirwaiz said to blow out of proportions this simple invitation for a social event and present it out of its context speaks about the mental bankruptcy of such elements.

Mirwaiz said the Hurriyat leadership would not remain silent over any policy that harms the collective interests of the people of Kashmir.

Condemning the continued restrictions on the movement of resistance leadership and their arrests, continued house arrest of veteran resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani, arrest of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik and placing him in detention at Central Jail Srinagar, and arrests and house arrests of other resistance leaders, he said such tactics can neither cow down the resistance leadership nor suppress the peaceful resistance struggle of the people.

Informing that the unified resistance leadership would announce joint resolutions regarding the Kashmir issue on Jumat-ul-Vida (the last Friday of Ramadan), he said these resolutions would be presented before the people at all Masajids, shrines and Imam Barghas for their approval.
