Forces Sunday evening lifted the cordon-and-search operation in forest area near Saraiballa village in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Official sources told GNS that army’s 44 RR and SOG had laid a cordon-and-search operation near forest area adjacent to Sariballa village in Zavoora area of Shopian following the specific inputs about the presence of militants.

Earlier, the forces, sources said had sprinkled kerosene over bushes and put it on fire in order to push out militants who they believed were hiding inside.

However, late in the evening, the forces found nothing in the area and lifted the cordon-and-search operation.

Meanwhile, sources said that some 3-4 militants managed to give slip to the troops before they laid the siege in the area.
