Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani Monday paid rich and glorious tributes to the slain militant Raqib Ahmad who died in a brief Pulwama gunfight with forces.

“The forced military occupation of India and the atrocities of army and SOG is motivating our beloved youth to choose this path and it is a natural reaction which every person will show when he is not allowed to live a dignified life and when he is pushed to the wall,” Geelani said in a statement issued this evening.

Terming the huge public participation in the funeral prayers of the militants as an “eye opener for India and its agents”, Geelani said, “when there is quite different atmosphere with regarding to the armed struggles from Washington to Islamabad, the funeral processions of our martyred youth give a clear message that the killing of innocent people and picking up the gun as a reaction against the atrocities and oppression are two different things and if former is termed as terrorist and he is hated by the people, the second one is called as hero and he attains the status of a brave heart and the people love him.”

The Hurriyat Conference (g) Chairperson Geelani paid glowing tributes to all the slain militants “who get martyred every now and then”, said, “the Kashmiris are not the war mongers and nor did they have any enmity with the people of India. They believe in ‘live and let live’ and the human values has been their centuries old tradition. At the time of partition, when whole of the sub-continent was engulfed by the communal tension, this region created a history and showed the meaning of brotherhood to the world.”

“All the responsibility of the loss of precious human lives which is happening on daily basis in today’s Kashmir are no India. India without any constitutional and moral justifications occupied this region and snatched the freedom rights of its people. 7.5 lakh armed forces of India are deployed in this small piece of land and in addition to that Special Operation Group (SOG) named a selected unit of state police is also operating here. Indian army along with the SOG are terrorizing and harassing the innocent civilians and the black laws which are in force here give them protection from any accountability,” Geelani said in a statement from New Delhi. “The atrocities and oppression carry a natural reaction like the Palestinian people react against the Israeli state which was recently mentioned by the UNO Secretary General in his speech over which the Israeli prime minister expressed his displeasure.”

Geelani said, “the picking up weapon for the people and picking up weapon against the people are two different issues and the world should definitely differentiate between these two things. Measuring of both the things with the same scale will be an extreme kind of injustice.” “The participation of the countless people in the funeral prayers of our brave hearts is a living and open proof that they are not anti-social and nor have they any to do with the terrorism which the India is trying to project them. They are heroes in front of the people who are fighting for their freedom and dignity.”

Meanwhile, paying glowing tributes to the late Mohammad Afzal Guru on his third martyrdom anniversary, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) said that the last letter of Guru which he wrote before going to gallows has become as a “source of inspiration for the Kashmiri nation and it has added a new life to our freedom struggle”. “The entire Kashmiri nation is duty bound to carry forward the mission of the Shaheed Afzal Guru and other martyrs and they will never bow before the Indian oppression.”
