SRINAGAR: A militant has been killed in a brief shootout in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday evening, reports said.

Militant fired upon a joint team of police and Army after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped at the naka outside police station Bandipora. The naka was laid following specific inputs, reports said.

In the shootout an army officer of the rank of major sustained injuries. He was from 14 Rashtriya Rifles. In the immediate retaliation, they killed a militant.

Confirming the incident Superintendent of Police Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar, said that the militant has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, native of Bandipora and was affiliated with Hizbul Mujhaideen.
