Expressing its deep concern and anguish over the multiple pellet injuries in head, face and eyes of Palhallan teenager, Hamid Nazir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Sunday said that despite severe criticism by the human rights organizations, the police in Jammu & Kashmir continue “use the lethal weapons against the public and due to which many innocent lives have been lost and hundreds of youths have been rendered inoperative”.

“In the modern times, many safe methods of controlling the protest demonstrations have been discovered and human lives are considered very precious. The use of pellet has been rejected everywhere and it had been termed as deadly weapon and has been banned in the civilized regions,” Sunday’s statement from Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani said.

It said, “it is a serious human issue and the use of these kinds of weapons against the common people is a serious war crime.”

“The Hurriyat (G) equally shares the pain and grief of the parents of the injured youth and all its sympathies are with them. Hurriyat conference took strong notice of this process and will do everything to highlight this issue,” the statement maintained.

It added that the people everywhere in the world come out on the roads to express their feelings and emotions; and every democratic society respects the right to protest of the people but the “situation in Jammu & Kashmir is quite different which is worse than the martial rule”.

“There are black laws like AFSPA and Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) in use in Jammu & Kashmir which empowers the armed forces to do whatever they like. AFSPA is a license for the government forces to kill the common people and whatever they will do under its grab, they will be asked nowhere for this and no court can held them accountable,” the statement said.

The statement added that many strong voices opposed the use of Pellet from the very beginning and including the human rights organizations, the health experts also demanded banning this weapon but the government is not paying any heed to these appeals and this deadly weapon is continuously being used in Jammu & Kashmir.

“The result of this inhuman weapon is in-front of you in the shape of the critically injured Palhallan teenager and he is about to lose his eye sight. This is a very serious issue and it should be taken very seriously. Hurriyat Conference appeals the world bodies to come forward to protect the lives of the Kashmiri people,” the statement concluded.
