A day after recovery of missing youth’s body, complete shutdown was observed in parts of Civil Lines amidst clashes, witnesses said here on Monday.

On Sunday, clashes had rocked Maisuma area of the city here after a missing youth’s body was found in Shadipora from Jhelum in North Kashmir. The locals alleged that the youth was murdered while as police said they are investigating the matter.

Even as there was no call for shutdown, all the shops and other establishments remained closed in Maisuma, Lal Chowk and Budshah Chowk against the death of the youth. During the shutdown, clashes broke out between youth and government forces at Maisuma after which harsh restrictions were imposed in the area.

Witnesses told GNS that paramilitary CRPF ruthlessly thrashed a youth near Akhara building with batons as they accused him of pelting stones on them. The youth was later detained by police.

Witnesses further said that CRPF men had imposed strict restrictions and they were not allowing civilians as well as media men to go inside Maisuma.
