A complete shutdown was observed on Saturday in Maisuma and its adjacent areas against the alleged police excesses. The call for shutdown was given by the traders’ bodies of Maisuma and Gowkadal.

All the shops in Gowkadal, Madina Chowk and Red Cross Road remained closed while authorities had deployed large contingent of police and Para-military Forces to thwart any kind of protest.

Pertinently, Traders Association Gowkadal had alleged police desecrated Islamic books and also damaged the merchandises of shopkeepers following the protest in the area against the Israeli airstrikes on the civilians of Gaza. “Some policemen thrashed people who were offering Friday prayers on road while others ransacked the shops. They also entered into a bookshop and desecrated the Islamic books,” Traders had claimed.

Meanwhile, President Traders Association Gowkadal Sajad Gul told CNS that Saturday’s shutdown was against the police atrocities and an appeal to the police authorities to fix responsibility on the accused police personnel and initiate action against them.
