Condemning the arrest spree and nocturnal raids, particularly in Old City, senior Hurriyat leader Javaid Ahmad Mir said the police are harassing youth by force.

“Oppressive measures as like 80s are going on against the length and breadth of the innocent teenagers and students of the Old City,” Mir said.

He said that these kinds of frustrated and revengeful acts cannot deter them struggling for Kashmir issue.

“By arresting the youth especially students the police is provoking the common people and are forcing them to come out on roads. Police in a planned way registers FIRs against the students to ruin their carrier and are forcing them to react,” Mir said.

It looks that India has virtually started a war against the common Kashmiris, he said.

“Army and police have intensified the search and patrolling in various parts of the Valley and have formally launched a crackdown on common youth, especially students and are harassing their family members, the beloved children of their parents are snatched from them and are kept in police stations and jails to win this one sided game.”

Police is conducting raids on the houses of students detaining their relatives, he said.

“This is an open reflection of a state policy which is against people and is based on undemocratic and inhuman values.”
