Much to the surprise of onlookers, a unionist politician and lawmaker from Langate, Er Rashid Friday walked inside Srinagar’s Pratap Park at Lal Chowk and signed the life-sized poster demanding the release of the incarcerated political prisoner, Dr Qasim Faktoo and other political prisoners.

Notably, a life-sized poster of Dr Faktoo was placed in Srinagar’s Pratap Park for a signature campaign demanding his and other political lifer’s release on May 27. Faktoo’s political party Muslim Deeni Mahaz placed a poster, which was signed by many students and passersby walking inside the part.

“I express my complete support to the campaign,” Er Rashid said. “All political prisoners should be released including Dr Qasim Faktoo.”

Dr Faktoo was detained on February 5, 1993 under section 3 of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), under section 302 and 120-B Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). Though TADA Court Jammu acquitted him on July 14, 2001, but government challenged the said acquittal in Supreme Court of India that later sentenced the accused for life imprisonment.

  1. what matters in this case is not the long incarceration of this man but the culpability and alleged incriminating character of this person. If he has committed a crime then vouching for his release is absolute nonsense. but if he is innocent then his release merits consideration which i believe is not the case as he stands convicted by the court of law.Anyways Freedom should not means liberty and free will of criminals.
