With Kashmir University grappling with paucity of time to start the entrance test for various Masters Degree programs, the varsity Thursday extended the submission date for online application forms of PG Entrance Test up to May 23 – this weekend.

The varsity officials said that the date has been extended to enable more candidates to submit the forms.

Notably, September floods last year badly hit education in Kashmir, making it tread eventful course where it faced many hiccups.

With the result, the students couldn’t attend educational institutions hence their syllabus remained incomplete and the examinations dates were extended.

Although, the bureaucrat-turned-education minister, Naeem Akhtar, relaxed examination process for classes up to ninth and eleventh, the state government allegedly is not supportive of formally restarting March Session in Kashmir division unlike Jammu. Up to early 1990s, Valley was following March Session.

Amid the suspended class work, however, voices from civil society, unionist and separatist political camps too have started rallying behind the March Session in restive valley. But Kashmir University officials say the government hasn’t given its consent for the same.

In between what is noteworthy to mention are the results of under- graduate courses that are yet to be declared—although official sources say the result of final year (UG) is ready.

Going by the academic calendar of Kashmir University, the class work of new PG batches should have started in April second week, at the most, as it has to follow its October-November session.

More so, this year, the KU has taken a step forward and has ‘cast away’ with the system of hard copy submission procedure.

“To make it easy for students to submit the entrance test forms, wherever they are, we started the online system,” an official said.

Unlike past, the KU has made it easy for students to register online for any PG course on KU’s official website.

After successfully registering the details online, a bank receipt is generated through which the student pays for the examination fee at any J&K Bank branch.

Otherwise, up till now, students had to first buy a KU prospectus copy, fill details online through KU official website and then manually submit the internet generated entrance form at the campus or its satellite offices established for the purpose.
