The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a fresh advisory to the Jammu and Kashmir government asking it to keep a close watch on the activities of separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani.

An official of the ministry from New Delhi told KNS that on the directions of the Home Minister Rajnath Singh the MHA in its fresh advisory has asked the state home department to keep close eye on the activities of separatist leaders. “MHA feels that separatist leaders including Geelani are detrimental to disturb the peace in Jammu and Kashmir and the unity and integrity of the country. The MHA has asked the JK Home department to put the activities of Hurriyat leaders under surveillance and take legal action against the separatist in case of any adverse activities,” he said.

“The MHA has also told the state government to put in place a proper system of surveillance on their activities. As and when anything adverse surfaces, appropriate action, as envisaged by law, should be taken,” he added.

Quoting a fresh report submitted by Mufti government to the Centre, the official said, “State government has assured that intelligence apparatus and the local police were working in tandem. This will facilitate the planning of advance and adequate deployment of law and order components for the maintenance of peace in areas likely to be visited by separatist elements.”

He said that GoI is also keeping a close watch towards the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. “The central government is keeping a close watch on the situation in J&K. Union Home Ministry is keeping itself abreast with all the sequence of the events from time to time. They are also giving most valuable guidance to the state of J&K,” he added.

The fresh directive from MHA came a day after Chief Minister promised action against those responsible for waving Pakistani flags at Friday’s rally addressed by Geelani.  “Some people were involved in such activities. Action will be taken against those involved in such an act,” Sayeed told journalists in Ahmedabad, recalling how separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat, who had raised pro-Pakistan slogans and ‘waved Pakistani flags’ at a rally attended by Geelani was put behind bars.
