Hurriyat Conference (G) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani said that it is very “unfortunate” that whenever a Kashmiri youth is arrested outside the state, he is convicted & implicated in “fake cases” and even legal consultation or assistance is not provided to him.

Reacting to the Kolkatta court’s decision and pronouncement of death sentence to Muzaffar Ahmad Rather of Kulgam and two other Pakistani nationals, Geelani said, “In their cases no evidence was produced, nor was the trio allowed to put their case and police after preparing a fabricated case influenced the court verdict.”

Geelani expressed concern over the pronouncement of death sentence to Muzaffar Ahmad Rather.

A statement of the amalgam issued here, quoting Geelani, said that Judiciary is thought of as the last resort for justice but instead it is acting as a tool of Injustice.

“Indian judiciary has never delivered justice when it comes to people of the state and their decisions and rulings are always influenced by biased approach and politics.”

The octogenarian leader said that announcing death sentence to the three is a “mockery of justice” and people of Jammu and Kashmir have never reposed faith in Indian judiciary as they have witnessed how these institutions were influenced  as was done in Afzal Guru case.

Geelani said instead of providing justice on substantial grounds to Afzal Guru, the “collective conscience” of people was satisfied.

Geelani expressed sympathy with the family of Muzaffar and said in this hour of grief “we and whole nation stands with them”.
