Kashmir valley witnessed the coldest night temperature as mercury dropped to minus 5.6 degree Celsius, sources said

MeT office in Srinagar said that -5.6 degree Celsius temperature was recorded during the intervening night of 26 and 27 December.

Sources said that even Dal Lake and other water bodies froze partially during the night.

Valley Kashmir is virtually shivering during the Chillai Kallan-the coldest forty days in Kashmiri calendar. The continuous dryness has made the vallyeites more concerned as they suffer with coughs colds and other ailments related to the season.

Experts are of the opinion that situation is sure to change if precipitation takes place.
