Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at Singhpora on May 24, 2016Terming the unity among the resistance leadership and people as the urgent need of the hour to “protect Kashmiri nationalism, resistance movement, and Muslim-majority character of Jammu and Kashmir”, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday said, “Government of India and its local partners in the state were targeting the people at political, religious and social levels for changing the disputed status of Kashmir and for weakening the resistance movement”.

Urging people to “counter the attempts” being made to change the demography and disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz said, “the responsibility does not lie on any particular individual or political party alone but was the collective responsibility of the entire Kashmiri nation.”

Appealing people to make the joint programme announced by the resistance leadership “a success”, he said, “the leadership had presented a joint programme before the nation for tackling the barrage of anti-Kashmir policies on anvil.”

Addressing a one-day delegate session of the Singhpora Block of the APHC-m at Singhpora Pattan, Mirwaiz said, “attempts were being made to suppress the just struggle of Kashmiris, change their religious identity and demography by using force and thus change the Muslim-majority character of the state.”

“In the name of setting up of Sainik Colony, separate colonies for Kashmiri Pandits, refugee colonies, and new industrial policy, efforts were being made to grab the land of the people of Jammu Kashmir,” he said declaring that APHC-m “will not stay silent over these issues and will protect the rights of the people of Kashmir at all costs”. “The conglomerate was not against the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley but was against their settlement in the separate townships and would oppose such moves.”

Paying tributes to the people of Singhpora Pattan for their “contribution and sacrifices toward the ongoing resistance movement”, Mirwaiz said, “APHC-m would remain connected with the people at all times and at all costs and that the conglomerate would be strong only when its constituents are strong and a strong APHC-m would take the resistance movement forward.”

During his address, Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari stressed that Kashmir issue “was not an issue of water, electricity, benefits or concessions” but an issue concerning the political future of 1.25 crore people which had kept the two nuclear neighbours India and Pakistan in a confrontation mode for the past seven decades.

He said, “for suppressing the just struggle of Kashmiris, plans of making Kashmir another Palestine were being made in the RSS headquarters at Nagpur, which would be foiled.”
