Presenting its first budget in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Modi government made a special mention about Jammu and Kashmir. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley while presenting the budget announced that Rs 20 crore has been allocated for the development of crafts in the state while budget to build strategic roads has been increased from Rs 50 to 60 crore.

The minister said that the budget allocation for special industry initiative has been increased from Rs 50 to 90 crore, while there is a Rs 500 crore increase in migrant relief and rehabilitation budget from Rs 151.87 to Rs 660 crore.

For special support for rehabilitation of migrants in Jammu segment of state, Rs 500 crore have been allocated. The finance minister said that for up gradation of two indoor stadiums in Jammu and Srinagar each to international standards, Rs 500 crore has been allocated.

The union government announced that an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be set up in Jammu; it added that for promotion of Pashmina, Rs 500 are allocated.
