PDP’s Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak Friday said that being border state Jammu and Kashmir has the highest stakes in the peace efforts between Indian and Pakistan.

“Ours is not a party which says one thing while in power and other while in opposition. We have and will always advocate and work for the peaceful relationships between Government of India and Pakistan as it is the state of Jammu and Kashmir which pays for any hostility between the neighbouring countries”, Tak said while participating in the discussion on governor’s address in the Legislative Council, today.

Referring to the Governor address where he has emphasized for the peaceful relationships as envisaged in the “Agenda of Alliance” between ruling PDP and BJP, the legislator said that people of state have paid heavy price for the hostilities and they are strongly believe that peace in the sub-continent was need of the hour. “You cannot have development when your armies are at war. The peace on the borders not only ensure relief for the residents living on the either side of the fence but it also allow the elected governments to work for the betterment and prosperity of nation”, he said.

He also emphasized on the need to address internal dimensions of the problem by engaging all those who have a different opinion and have grievances against the democratic setup. “We all have to give peace a chance. PDP under the leadership of Late Mufti Muhammad Saeed has delivered on the ground and we will do it again but for any development peaceful atmosphere was prerequisite”, he added.

Tak hailed various initiatives taken by the present dispensation and previous government headed by Late Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Saeed terming them as historic and development oriented. However, he said that more needs to be done in order to streamline the system at the ground level.

He welcomed the announcement made in the address regarding establishment of maternity hospitals at the district level saying it will revolutionize maternity and child care in the state. “However, I would also like to draw the attention of the government towards the problems in the rural areas where there even the shortage of basic health care facilities. Pregnancy still is a curse in the rural areas where a woman is not sure to survive of labour pain due to non-availability of any facility”, he said demanding a complete revamp of health care facilities in the state.
