KUPWARA: With the aim to improve banking services in remote areas of Kashmir, Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq on Friday inaugurated currency chest of JK Bank in Kupwara district.

He said the establishment of the currency chest will improve the customer services significantly that will give flip to the local business. He said the opening of Currency Chest will ensure of availability of cash in the district especially in far flung areas of the district. He said the chest will cater 44 business units of all banks operating in Kupwara and adjoining areas thereby improving their services delivery to the common people

Minister was accompanied by MLA Kupwara Bashir Ahmad Dar, Chairman JK Bank Parvez Ahmad, DC Kupwara GM Dar, District and session’s Judge Kupwara Mohammad Ibraheem Wani and other senior officers of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman JK Bank informed the minster that there are 35 branches of JK Bank in the district and will be increased to 100 business units of the bank to assist the locals in giving new flip to their business.

Chairman informed the minister that the bank has provided a loan of Rs 900 crore among fifty thousand people in  Kupwara district which will soon be increased to Rs 1200 crore to help the local business and artisans to grow. He said 6.40 lakh people of the district are connected to the banking services of JK Bank in the district.

On the occasion officers of the bank were directed to prepare a three year plan for Rs 5000 crore under which trainings will be imparted to unemployed youth of the state for skill development besides providing loan facility to the farmers, orchardists and artisans of the district. He asked officers to keep Rs 500 crore reserve for skill development and trainings for next three years. He also assured construction of RSETI building in the district.

JK Bank also decided to adopt Kunposhpora and Nagri Kalaroos villages to develop them on modern lines. Chairman also assured establishment of bank branches at Tikipora, Darpora and Varnov. Chairman also announced establishment of a public park in Kupwara and directed officials to identify land the same.

Abdul Haq later distributed devices for cashless transaction among the traders of Kupwara district.
