Minister for Science and Technology, Sajad Gani Lone Monday distributed scholarships worth Rs 4.50 lakh among 75 science students of Jammu division.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said these incentives will attract and encourage the students to fully exploit their scientific talent in a more organized manner.“This will also help the state to produce best scientists and researchers”, he maintained, according to an official statement.

The scholarships were given under ´Science Talent promotion Scheme´ aimed at encouraging science talent among the students and creating a competitive scientific culture, under post-matric,   graduate and post-graduate levels for the award of such scholarships.

“It is the commitment of the Government to ensure better infrastructure, high quality faculty and greater interaction between academia and industry. Students will pursue science education as their career to help the State in producing outstanding scientists and to overcome the dearth of local scientists and technologists,” he said.

The Minister said that J&K State Council for Science & Technology endeavours to harness the potential of Science & Technology as instrument of socio-economic change and to strive towards ensuring that science & technology are not only restricted to scientific laboratories and academic institutions but percolate to the grass-root, to make these part of the everyday life of our State.

“IIIM Jammu in Collaboration with Science and Technology Department would continue to promote Science and Technology and its potential in the State,” he said.

Out of the total number of awardees 25 each at post-matric, BSc and MSc level were conferred upon the meritorious students. The scholarship distribution function was organised by J&K State Council for Science and Technology at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) here, the statement added.
