Tehreek i Hurriyat

Days after Gh Muhammad Bhat took over Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) J&K as Amir, he Friday morning straight away drove to Hyderpora to meet octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch, Syed Ali Geelani at his residence.

Top sources in the know-how of the development revealed to Kashmir Life that Bhat early this day before going to office met Geelani and had a long chat with him.

“This certainly is a major development as Bhat met Geelani,” one of the sources said adding, “the duo has opposite views on modus operandi of JeI on Kashmir Issue.”

After JeI ‘reverted’ from its stand on militancy in 1999, severe internal bickering had ultimately led to formation of Tehreek-I-Hurriyat (TeH) to be led by Syed Ali Geelani.

Bhat also called upon deputy of Geelani and TeH Secretary General, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. Geelani and Sehrai are basic members of JeI, however, Sehrai’s membership stands suspended.

After securing more than 50% votes to be elected as Amir, Bhat is serving as President of JeI for record fourth time. He comes back after 15 years.
