On the opening day of Darbar Move in Srinagar Tuesday, JK CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed candidly asserted that his govt need some time to get going in the state.

Addressing the press conference on the reopening of the Civil Secretariat, Mufti said PDP-BJP coalition government has just completed two months.

“My government will provide good governance to the people but it is a time consuming process,” he said.

He said that the system has to be set right and it cannot happen overnight. “It will take time,” he said.

Mufti said there were many challenges before the state. “But my priority was to help flood-affected people to rebuild their homes and reconstruct the infrastructure like roads which were badly affected,” he said.

Mufti said his govt’s main focus is on tourism revival and to tackle unemployment in the state.

But when asked about the flip-flop on his govt’s employment policy, Mufti said from now on, his Education Minister Naeem Akhtar is only authorised to speak on the matter.

Playing down the reports — that JK CM has deviated from his ‘battle of ideas’ slogan by jailing Hurriyat (G) leader Masrat Alam on his ally BJP’s diktats, Sayeed said his agenda hasn’t changed “but certain things were unacceptable”. He said “Alam’s own deeds” led to his arrest—referring to the hoisting of Pakistani flags.
