SRINAGAR

On the appeal of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, a public program was Friday organized in Shopian in remembrance of the alleged double murder and rape case of Asiya and Nelofar while as a shutdown has been called on 30 May in the district.

In a statement issued here, spokesperson of the Hurriyat (G) said leaders who participated and spoke at the occasion include Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Yasmeen Raja, Sayed Bashir Andrabi, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed, Mohammad Ramzan Khan, Ameer Hamza, Mohammad Yousuf Falahi, Bashir Ahmad Qurashi, Shaikh Mohammad Ramzan, Mohammad Yousuf Mir, Shakeel Ahmad and Mohammad Amin Parray.

While demanding the reopening of the “double murder and rape case” of Asiya and Nelofar and public execution of the involved personals, they said, “There were enough evidences available to prove the big hand of the Indian agencies in this unfortunate incident and all those evidences and witnesses were eliminated under a deep conspiracy. The Omer Abdullah government of that time played an important role in shielding the real culprits and hushing up the case. Thousands of people led by hurriyat leaders paid rich and glorious tributes to the two daughters Asiya and Nelofar.”

The Hurriyat leaders while addressing the gathering said, “Shopian incident of Asiya and Nelofar is a very serious and shameful episode in the resistance movement which has shaken the conscious of the whole Kashmiri Nation. This incident can no way be neglected and until an impartial investigation is conducted in this case and the real culprits are brought to justice, we will not remain silent and we will continue to raise our concerns.”

“The gang rape is used as war weapon by the Indian forces in Jammu & Kashmir and from last 25 years about seven thousand women have been either raped or molested by these forces. The black laws like AFSPA and Disturbed Area Act (DAA) are in force in this state and due to this no rape accused person has been so far prosecuted or punished. The government forces are free to do whatever they want and no one will question them for that,” they alleged.

While demanding the impartial investigation by some independent institution into all the gang rape incidents of Jammu & Kashmir, Hurriyat (G) leaders said that United Nations War Crimes Tribunal should held accountable all the army personals like they did in the case of Bosnia war crimes.

Meanhwile, the Hurriyat amalgam said that its chairperson Syed Ali Geelani has been continuously under house arrest from last 40 days and he was today stopped from participating in the Friday congregational prayers.

“The police are already surrounding the residence of Geelani Sahab but on Friday they call in more force to prevent him from offering the Friday prayers,” Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said and termed the government policy as “state terrorism.”

“‘Soft policy’ and ‘change’ like slogans of Mufti Sayed have proven a hoax and their government is now working as a branch of the BJP in the state and instead of making their own decisions, they are busy in implementing the orders which come from Nagpur. Omer Abdullah in his regime imprisoned Geelani Sahab for continuously 4 long years at his home and the Mufti government has started to follow the same path of unjustified house detention of the pro-freedom leader,” he alleged.

He expressed his surprise and sorrow over the statements of the D G Police K Rajindra and IGP Kashmir Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gilani who “again and again deny” the house detention of Geelani and are terming him a free man.

“While as the truth is that Geelani Sahab is a caged leader and his house detention started right from the 20 April and he has not been allowed to come out for even a single day. Police is covering the failures of the Mufti Sayed government and they are lying just to justify the undemocratic policies of this government. Geelani Sahab returned to Valley on 15 April and from then the process of his house detention started. And during this period he only once got chance to participate in the Friday prayers when he gave slip to the police and moved to Tral in the midnight,” he claimed.

The Hurriyat (G) appealed the human rights organization to take serious notice of the house arrest of Geelani and use their influence in his release.
