Hurriyat Conference (G) Thursday expressed its deep concern and anguish over the reports that the communal forces want to harm senior pro-freedom leader Masarat Alam Bhat in the Jammu jail.

In a statement, Hurriyat (G) spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, cautioned that if any untoward happened with the Masarat in the jail, all its responsibility will be with the government and the jail management.

“Notorious Kot Balwal jail is in no way any safe place for the pro-freedom people and this jail has witnessed the murders of its inmates in the past. A Pakistani prisoner named Sanaullah Ranja was also killed here in 2013 and many other gangsters have also got killed here. Indian media mafia and the communal groups are presenting the image of Masarat Sahab as a dangerous person and they are trying in every possible way to defame him,” he alleged.

“He is, however, a humble and respected political leader and he had not attacked any country and nor has he killed anybody but he is being victimized for raising few slogans and he has been alleged of waving Pakistani flag in a disputed region of the world,” Akbar said.

While demanding immediate shifting of Masarat Alam to any other jail in the Valley, Ayaz said, “Masarat was sent to Jammu jail on the directions of the state administration so if any kind of unpleasant happened with him, then all its responsibility will be on Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and he will be held accountable for this.”

He appealed the Amnesty International, International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) and other human rights organizations to take serious notice of the threat to the life of Masarat Alam and use their influence to make sure his safety.
