Condemning the large scale arrests of youth in Kashmir, especially in and around Maisuma and Lal Chowk area, nocturnal raids on the residences of pro-freedom leadership, and harassment of the inhabitants living in these areas, Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesperson said that on one hand Kashmiris are being subjected to wanton suppression while on the other the state was using ‘brute force to crush the peaceful voices raised against these injustices’, a statement said on Monday said.

Terming these acts by police and paramilitary forces as a ‘blatant violation of democratic and moral principles’, the spokesperson said that the continuous arrest of youth and political activists even after the conclusion of election drama in Kashmir clearly indicates the continuation of “oppressive designs of the authorities in Kashmir”.

The Hurriyat spokesperson appealed international rights organizations to take strong notice of basic human rights violations in Kashmir and asked them to use their influence to end this “Indian policy of aggression and suppression in Kashmir”.
