Just hours before the last leg of ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir come to an end, two Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidates were Friday evening attacked in Nowshera and Billawar areas of Rajouri district allegedly by the opposition political party goons leaving Nowshera candidate Ravinder Raina and his supporter wounded.

According to media reports, the cavalcade of BJP candidate Nowshera Ravinder Raina was allegedly targeted by the opposition political party (party name withheld) when he was passing through Lambari area.

“The attackers damaged the vehicle carrying BJP candidate and wounded Raina and his supporter before leaving the area,” reports said, adding police on receiving information rushed to the spot.

“They evacuated the injured to the hospital for treatment and then, he was referred to GMC Hospital in Jammu for advanced treatment. Condition of Raina was stated to be stable and out of danger. Meanwhile, noisy protest demonstration started in Nowshera which continued till filing of this report,” the media report informed.

Besides, the report added that Dr Nirmal Singh, BJP candidate for Billawar assembly seat (Kathua) too was attacked at Thara Kalwal allegedly by around eight Congress miscreants, as per a press statement issued by Nirmal Singh.

Police have started investigation in both the cases, it said.
