SRINAGAR

Strongly condemning the arrest of JKLF leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, Syed Ali Geelani has said that state government is implementing RSS agenda by crushing and curbing the basic rights of the people. When people come on streets to react, batons of police, tear gas shells, bullets and pellets are fired at them to silence these voices, a statement issued by the Hurriyat (g) said.

Yasin was leading a peaceful protest, according to the statement. “There was no reason to prevent it by force, but authorities have decided that no peaceful activity is to be tolerated,” the statement said, alleging that these peaceful protests are being turned violent, by age old tactics of force or torture, to legalize the arrests.

Geelani termed Malik’s manhandling as “police vendetta” and insisted that “these men in uniform” have crossed all the limits of their own norms “to appease their masters”.

In a separate statement Hurriyat (g) said people in government can’t oppose any move by their coalition partners as the very existence thrives on the implementation of Hindutva. Termed them as “mortgaged minds”, the statement said they are meant for “shielding anti-people moves”.

It said that while PSA was introduced as one “tall leader” for fighting timber smuggling, the same law has “today darkened the future of thousands of our innocent youth”.
