A Pulwama based reporter was admitted in District Hospital Pulwama on Thursday as he fainted after a youth PDP worker allegedly threatened and abused him for carrying a news item.

The news item was about the clash between workers of two parties in Beerwah area of Budgam on re-poll day.

The reporter identified as Qayoom Khan is working for a local news organization and as a stringer for a Delhi-based news channel.

After the news was carried by a Srinagar based website, he received a call from the PDP youth worker who threatened him or dire consequences and allegedly used abusive language, said another scribe who accompanied Qayoom to the hospital.

Qayoom was later put in emergency ward under observation for two hours after undergoing a number of tests, hospital sources said.

“He was deeply traumatized when he was brought to the hospital,” doctors said.

Kashmir Life spoke with Qayoom later in the evening, as he was stable then.

“When I saw the news being carried by local news websites I contacted few people to arrange visuals. But within few minutes I got a call from a political party worker who started abusing me and gave life threats,” Qayoom said. “He was so intimidating that after hearing threats to myself and my family I fainted.”

A Srinagar website said the reporters had approached police for registering FIR but they have been asked to visit the police station later. Now the Pulwama based reporters are planning a formal protest to get a case registered against the threatening political worker.
