SRINAGAR

Flood victims from scores of areas of Srinagar city have refuted the Government claims that free ration is being distributed among people. The residents of Shikar Ghat Omar Abad HMT, Khan Colony Qamarwari, Iqbal Colony Natipora, Shivpora said that they did not receive any ration form the government.

“Not speaking of free ration, even we have did not get basic quota,” a resident of Omar Abad HMT Javid Ahmed told a local news agency, CNS.

Pertinently, Government vide order number 03-Rev (CAMP) of 2014 accorded sanction to CA&PD department to provide free ration for six months to all such families affected due to floods. Each such family was liable to get 50 kgs of ration. However, people have been complaining that store-keepers of CA&PD department not only demanded money for the ration but at various places no ration was provided to the affected families.

“Government is befooling us by making hollow claims. Please tell me where is free ration. We fail to understand why there is no free distribution of relief in all the areas,” a resident of Shivpora said.

Locals are alleging that the government has claimed that it distributed 90 thousand quintals of rice only in Srinagar. “All these claims are hollow and void. The reality is that we did not get any ration,” a resident of Qamarwari said.

A delegation from Bazar Mohalla Naidhai Sumbal area of Bandipora district said that the residents of the area lost all ration cards in devastating floods and since then the CA&PD department has stopped them providing ration. “We completed all the formalities and intimated the department about the incident, yet no ration is being supplied to us,” they said.
