A Forester of Rafiabad forest range has been suspended by the department for wrongly unloading timber at Watergam forest depot.
Ather Parvaiz, forester of Chatoosa forest block had wrongly unloaded 242 sq ft timber at Watergam forest depot instead of Batapora forest depot.
“The department has initiated investigation into the matter to unfold the story, whether it was a case of vehicle failure or smuggling attempt,” DFO Langate Mehraj-ud-din Malik told KNS.
Earlier, police party led by SDPO Rafiabad Shabir Khan and SHO Dangiwacha raided the depot at Watergam and seized 234cft of timber which was illegally dumped at the depot.
“We have started the investigation as how the wood meant for one depot is smuggled to another depot,” SDPO Rafiabad told KNS.
“Without the involvement of Forest official this huge consignment is not possible. We will book the persons involved in this smuggling,” Khan said.
