SRINAGAR

Finally Sufara Jaan got her passport cleared from the state CID. sources said that after CID cleared the verification to help Sufaira get her passport, the case has now been put on fast track.

While talking to Kashmir Life on phone, Sufaira said, “I am very happy that after many hurdles my file has been cleared and most probably I will be flying to USA soon.”

Sufaira, hailing from Budgam district of central Kashmir and presently a student of an orphanage, Gulshan I Banaat, had applied for the passport after she got a one-year US scholarship under the India-US youth exchange study programme in March.

Sources also said that the next step would be the passport office actually issuing the passport.

Sufaira got admission for a US exchange programme but was denied passport because her uncle is a surrendered militant.

After the issue came into light Chief Minister Omar Abdullah promised to act on it. He had asked the CID to look into the matter and also promised that Sufaira will not be denied a passport. “I have asked CID to look in to the passport case of Sufaira,” he said on Twitter.

Meanwhile Zahoor Ahmad Tak, chairman of the orphanage informed Kashmir Life that he is in touch with the NGO in Delhi to look into the further formalities.
