A faulty drainage has water-logged Pampore town
A faulty drainage has water-logged Pampore town

A ‘serious’ snag in newly constructed UEED drainage system in Pampore Tuesday forced Jhelum to flow through residential areas and thus created a panic in the saffron town.

“No dewatering pumps are available at pampore,” one local told Kashmir Life, “with result, the water level in the area is going up steeply.”

The locals alleged that no flood control officer is on duty at Pampore’s Eidgah area, where the situation is said to be very critical.

Pertinently, the bund behind the Eidgah area breached in last year’s September flood and flooded the whole town in a jiffy.

“I am clueless about the development,” locals quoted Tehsildar Pampore,  Abdul Rehman as saying. “We are handicapped to do anything.”

Interestingly, the angry locals said Tehsil office Pampore is just a few meters away from the area.

“The irony is that,” locals said, “the tehsildar told us that all fire brigade of Pampore fire station has been put at task to drain out water from the house of the ‘honorable’ Minister Mohammad Ashraf Mir at Athwajan Pantha Chowk.”

As the situation is fast turning ugly, the locals feared for their safety and have appealed authorities to combat the situation on war-footing.
