Thousands of people Monday attended the funeral procession of Dawood Sheikh, a Hizb militant who was killed in a brief encounter on Sunday late evening.

The militant, affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, was identified as Dawood Sheikh Alias Furkan (Chota Burhan).

In the first of its kind, the funeral prayer of a militant was held eight times in a row.”Thousands of people continue to throng the native village of Dawood Sheikh, resulting in back to back eight funeral processions,” locals said.

The gunfight ensued after security forces, closing in on a house in Buchroo village after receiving specific information about two militants hiding there, came under heavy gunfire from the hiding militants, triggering the gunfight, the officer said.

An army soldier was also injured in the gun battle, reports said. (KNS)
