Reacting sharply to BJP’s intentions to communalise the issue of Rohangi refugees in Jammu, AIP chief and MLA Langate Er Rasheed has accused BJP of raising the issue to defend its weak stand on west Pakistani refugees.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the firebrand lawmaker rejected the version put forward by the BJP state president Satpal Sharma in a seminar held in Jammu, wherein he had communalised the Rohangi refugee issue and called it a conspiracy to change the demography of the state.

“While few hundred Rohangi refugees are residing temporarily in Jammu after facing the ethnic cleansing at the hands of Myanmar Government, there are thousands of non-state subjects living in Jammu city and its vicinity. If central and state governments truly want the non-state subjects to leave the state, it must start simultaneous talks with Burmese and the Pakistani Government for the same,” Rashid said and added that “the circumstances under which the WP refugees entered our state more than 50 years ago, has now altogether changed and as on date they can return back to their ancestral places. The Rohangi refugees on the other hand do qualify for various concessions under the international aws and will return once the situation back home becomes conducive.”

Rasheed condemned Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for her claims that Kashmiri’s couldn’t get the quality education because of Pandits leaving valley, as she believed Pandits to be more dedicated, professional and skilled in the field of education.

“It was due to the turmoil and the atrocities of security forces that Kashmiri children were either subjected to torture in interrogation cells like Papa 2, where unfortunately Miss Mehbooba is not able to hear the terrible and the horrible voices of deceased souls, who succumbed in these torture cells or were used on mass basis by army as unpaid forced labourers round the clock,” Rasheed said.

He said that however despite all these odds Kashmiris proved their worth and talent not only locally but at the global level too. “It is highly talented Kashmiri Muslims who are being denied passport to explore the opportunities to study and serve in various parts of the world”.

Rasheed reminded Mehbooba that “without her sermons also Kashmiri’s have a deep desire for peace but how can peace be achieved without finding a political solution to the J&K dispute.”
