Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan on Monday convened a meeting to review the progress of ongoing dredging work on river Jhelum.

Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood control (I&FC), Deputy Director Planning, representatives from Reach Dredging Limited and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

Chief Engineer I&FC informed the meeting that the contract of Jhelum dredging has been awarded to Reach Dredging Limited Company and till date around 67000 cubic meters silt has been dredged out from the river at Panzinara and Kreshbal , 65000 cubic meters at Shivpora and Zero Bridge while 2.55 lakh cubic meters of slit has been dredged out from the river Jhelum in Baramulla district.

During the meeting various matters including chopping of trees at Panzinara embankment and creation of Dyke (space for dumping material) at various dredging sites was also discussed.

Div Com directed the executing agency to install extra machines for dredging so that the targets are achieved in stipulated time and all the river embankments are cleared of sand & slit.

To supervise the dredging work and to resolve land acquisition issue for creating Dyke, the Div Com deputed 3 retired Tehsildars to the Reach Dredging Limited for assistance.

Divisional Commissioner also convened a meeting to review functioning of Health Department in the valley.

Director Health Services Kashmir, Saleem-u-Rehman, Deputy Director Planning, all Chief Medical officers (CMOs) of the valley and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

The Divisional Commissioner was given a brief about the facilities being provided to the people in valley’s healthcare institutions. He was informed that critical care is being provided to various patients in health institutions of the valley free of cost.

The meeting was further informed that buildings for 18 new healthcare centers have been completed and would be dedicated to the public very soon, besides digital X-ray and other medical and diagnostic equipments are being installed in district hospital Budgam shortly.

The Divisional Commissioner directed all CMOs to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness in and around all the Health institutions in the valley and directed the concerned to take up all the matters including land acquisition issues with the concerned Deputy Commissioners so that the buildings are completed within the stipulated time.

He directed the Director Health Services Kashmir to submit a comprehensive requirement of medicos, paramedics and other healthcare staff. He also asked the concerned to come up with details of ambulance and other medicare and diagnostic equipment required for smooth functioning of healthcare institutions of the valley.
