As the NYC volunteers’ hunger strike enters 36th day, the State Government Tuesday said that a number of factual inaccuracies and infirmities have been noticed in the proposal relating to their engagement and the entire issue is being resubmitted to the Cabinet shortly.

In a written reply to the question raised by National Conference legislator Abdul Majeed Bhat, the Minister for Education Nayeem Akhtar said, “the Cabinet decision of October 2014, provided for engagement of 10,000 contingency workers including 6,000 NYCs in 800 schools that were upgraded in the said proposal.”

The Minister said that this approval, however, stipulated that the Department (Education) would submit the proposal to the Departments of Finance and Planning for concurrence. “However, disregarding the said conditional Cabinet approval, Government order vide number 737-Edu of 2014 has been issued according sanction for the engagement of NYC’s subject to concurrence.”

The Minister said that while examining the matter, a number of factual inaccuracies and infirmities have been noticed in the proposal relating to their engagement and the entire issue is being resubmitted to the Cabinet shortly.

Pertinently, the hunger strike of All Jammu and Kashmir National Youth Corps Association (AJKNYCA) entered 36th day on Tuesday. They have been demanding implementation of a Cabinet meeting decision to engage them in the Education Department. (CNS)
