As Kashmir plains did not witness snowfall in Chila-e-Kalan, rains lashed Kashmir since Wednesday late evening.

Reports said that upper reaches witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall and at some places, snowfall is still continuing.

Giving details of the current snowfall, Kashmir’s meteorology department said:

The northern parts of the valley have received the maximum snowfall with Gurez recording 2.5 feet snow, while Sadhna top in district Kupwara received 1 feet snow. The major winter tourist destination of Gulmarg has received 5 inches of snow. The plains in the north, however, have received rains.

In south 4 inches of snow were recorded in Shopian, 11 inches in Hirpora, 9 inches at Jawahar Tunnel.

The tourist destination of Pahalgam has received 2 inches of snowfall. However, the plains in the Islamabad town witnessed heavy to mild rains.

In central Kashmir, snowfall was reported from Gund in Ganderbal district and Khansahib in Budgam with total of 1 inch, so far. All the other parts of central have received mild to heavy rains including Srinagar.

In arid desert of Leh, it has been raining for more than 12 hours while it is snowing in Drass.

The weatherman, however, said that there will be no snowfall in Srinagar yet. Pertinently Srinagar had received rains on 31st of last month.
