A daylong conference on promotion of urdu language was today held in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. The conference was organized by District administration Kupwara and was attended by people from different walks of life.

The function was organized in Town Hall Kupwara and Dr Asgar Samoon Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Shah Faesal Director School Education Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Rajeev Ranjhan renowned Urdu Scholar, Aijaz Kakroo and Prof. Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi from Islamic Studies Department, University of Kashmir and a number of Urdu think tanks, writers, philosophers, teachers and the student community attended the conference.

The function was manned by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara A H Masood. The theme of the conference was “Promotion of Urdu Language”.

Dr Shah Faesal while speaking on the occasion said that Urdu is in dire need of a bunch of well-wishers. He said that, the credit of his success story goes to Urdu which gave him the platform to reach the top. While appreciating the work of teacher community in keeping the “Urdu Spirit” alive in schools, he said that Urdu is being taught by our teachers with all love and affection.

He said that his department will introduce the “inspirational and motivational” poetry of Dr Allama Iqbal in the Urdu syllabus of Schools so as to give the students an “insight of Urdu literature.”

Divisional commissioner Kashmir Dr Asgar Samoon while speaking on the occasion, stressed on the need to prescribe Urdu language in all departments of the state.

He said that the Schools should come forward in taking the caravan of Urdu to the highest echelons of efficiency. While highlighting their role he said that the schools should generate Urdu debate during morning assemblies in their institutions and award the best Urdu speakers.

Dr A H Masoodi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, who amused the audience with poetry said that his office will organize the same function in coming months as part of the promotion and development of “Urdu Spirit” among the people.

Pahari cultural Forum Karnah performed a musical show during the function. Renowned writer and teacher Mohammad Yusuf Mashoor delivered a lecture on “Urdu and the contribution of North Kashmir.”

Chairman Private Schools Association G N War, Chief education officer Kupwara Farooq Ahmad Dar, District Social Welfare officer Kupwara, Peerzada Mumtaz and other district officers of the district participated in the function.
