argentine-mothersOn Friday, incarcerated human rights defender Khurram Parvez saw people from overseas holding protests against his detention.

Khurram completed one month in detention under notorious Public Safety Act (PSA) and is lodged in Kotbalwal jail.

He is coordinator of Srinagar based rights defender group – JKCCS and chairperson of AFAD.

A statement issued by CCS said that people from distant Argentina joined the protest against the detention of Khurram.

In Argentina, CCS informed that at least thirty thousand disappearances were committed during the dark years of the country’s dictatorship.

It said that members of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo (Mothers of Plaza de Mayo), Linea Fundadora, a member organization with International Coalition Against Enforced Disappearance (Latin America based Global Coalition of the organizations of families of disappeared persons) joined the call for the immediate and unconditional release of Khurram Parvez.

“The mothers carrying the placards of AFAD chairperson Khurram Parvez demanded for his immediate release and called for end to the harassment of human rights defenders in Kashmir,” the statement informed.

The Mothers of Plaza De Mayo is an association of Argentine mothers whose children were disappeared during the military dictatorship in Argentina between 1976 and 1983.

Since 1977, these mothers have been meeting in large city square in Buenos Aires demanding truth and justice for the disappeared.
