A sixty-two-year old right wing, Jama’at-e-Islami, J&K leader has been slapped with notorious Public Safety Act (ACT) and shifted to a Jammu jail.

Sources said that Mohammad Shaban Dar, who is chief of Jama’at’s Baramulla district was arrested from his Mazbugh residence in North Kashmir’s Sopore during the intervening night of September 17 and 18 this year.

It may be noted that many of Jama’at’s leaders and activists have been arrested in the on-going public uprising.

Dar was detained in Arampora police station and was driven to winter capital during the intervening night of September 29 and 30.

“He was among five persons booked under PSA from Sopore,” sources revealed. “Three of them were lodged in Kotbalwal jail while Dar along with another person was lodged in Kathua jail on Saturday morning.”

Kashmir is witnessing an anti-establishment uprising since July 09, 2016, a day after popular militant commander Burhan Wani was killed by forces in Bemdoora village.

At least 93 civilians have been killed while other 15000 persons have been injured in forces actions in last 85 days. More than 7000 people have been arrested and 2200 FIRs have been registered while as 420 PSA dossiers have been prepared of which more than 375 have been executed.

Under PSA, a person is detained for at least six months without trail and the detention period extends up to two years. The PSA has termed as ‘lawless law’ by watch dog Amnesty International.
