Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged heavy mortar and gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir since Wednesday. The cross Line of Control shelling has stopped Thursday morning.

Following halt in the mortar shelling, the troops on this side of the fence have started search operations.

Reports said that a vast area near the LoC was cordoned off in Balnoi village of Mendhar in Poonch district and extensive search operation was launched in the area by forces.

The two armies of nuclear armed neighbours exchanged heavy mortar and gunfire in Kalsiyan belt for several hours last evening which resumed this morning around 4 AM.

“Half a dozen shells fired from Pakistani side landed in our area but so far there are no reports of any losses on our side,” a news report quoting a senior officer said adding that firing has since stopped.
