DDC Srinagar Reviews Power Sector

District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone chaired a meeting of officers of PDD convened here Tuesday to take stock of achievements made in power sector under District Plan and Special Area Development Programme.

The District Development Commissioner reviewed the Constituency-wise and Division-wise pace of achievements made in power sector under District Plan and Special Area Development Programme with special reference to installation of Street Lights by different executing agencies such as Housing Board, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other executing agencies, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The District Development Commissioner impressed upon the concerned officers to put-up an appropriate mark of identification while installing these lights to avoid any overlapping/confusion on this account and before release of funds an appropriate physical verification shall be made by the concerned departments.

The District Development Commissioner directed the concerned to achieve the desired targets in full in view of the fact that a considerable period of time of the current fiscal has already elapsed.

He also impressed upon the officers of the Power Development Department to accelerate the process of creation of electric sub-stations and improvement of HT/LT network well in anticipation of the winters in valley as an amount of Rs. 234 lakh has been earmarked for District Srinagar under Special Area Development Programme for the said purpose including an amount of Rs 45 lakh for Northern Foreshore Road.

The District Development Commissioner also directed the concerned to pay spot visits of the Shia dominated areas of District Srinagar and provide un-interrupted power supply during the Moharram Processions.

Superintending Engineer, EM&RE Circle Ist Srinagar and all the Executive Engineers of EM&RE of District Srinagar attended the meeting.

DC Islamabad Meets Fruit Growers, Transporters, Fixes Transportation Charges

Amid the flare up in the freight charges by the transporters during the peak season of apple export to different parts of the country, the Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah today had a meeting with the members of different fruit and transport associations and agencies.

The Deputy Commissioner urged upon the transporters that fair and justifiable rates should be charged from the fruit growers.

Hailing that the horticulture sector has established as the prime income generating sector in the district, he called for cooperation between the transport and fruit associations so that the harvesting season of apple will provide full dividends to the fruit growers and the transporters.

During the deliberations, it was mutually agreed by the apple growers associations and transporters association that during the peak season, Rs 40 per apple box will be charged for Jammu while as Rs 60 and Rs 80 per apple box will be charged for Punjab and Delhi respectively.

It was the general request of the fruit growers that the closing time of the Jawahar Tunnel may be extended so that no fruit trucks remain stranded on this part of the tunnel during evening hours.

The SSP Islamabad assured them that their issue will be taken into consideration.

The meeting was also attended by ARTO, District Horticulture Officer, besides others.

DC Islamabad Visits Pahalgam

The Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah today visited Pahalgam area and took stock of the execution of different works undertaken by the Pahalgam Development Authority.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected different works being executed by the Pahalgam Development Authority and directed the concerned to expedite the pace of execution of works so that same are completed and made functional at the earliest.

CEO PDA informed that 3000 conifer saplings have been planted in the current season.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner inspected different Government offices including CEO, PDA, SDM, Tehsildar Pahalgam, MC Pahalgam, Forest Range office and Fisheries and interacted with the employees and got first hand appraisal of the functioning of their respective offices.

Deputy Commissioner said that stringent action would be taken against those making illegal construction in green zone and action shall also be taken against the officials abetting unauthorized construction in Pahalgam.

During his meet with the local Auqaf Committee, the Deputy Commissioner sought their cooperation in normalizing the law and order situation.

Besides, he also heard the issues of the local committees regarding provision of basic amenities and assured them that the district administration will take every possible measure in redressing their grievances.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the SSP Islamabad, Zubair Ahmad Khan and Chief Executive Officer, Pahalgam Development Authority.

DDC Pulwama Convenes Meeting of CEO, ZEOs, Principals, Headmasters

District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Muneer-Ul-Islam today chaired a meeting of officers of Education Department to get first hand appraisal of functioning of educational institutions in the district

The Chief Education Officer and ZEOs apprised the District Development Commissioner about the status of the functioning of schools in the district.

The District Development Commissioner said, “the students have suffered a lot due to the on-going turmoil in the district and it’s high time to play our role to recompense the educational loss to the students.”

He appreciated the work of the teachers who managed to attend their duties and imparted education to the students in their homes or private buildings.

The District Development Commissioner asked the Education Officers to build a close rapport with the parents to save precious time of the students and devise a suitable strategy to impart education to them.

He said it was the moral obligation of the whole society to save future of students, adding that education was essential to withstand stiff competition in all walks of life.

The District Development Commissioner also took stock of the progress made on the construction of school   buildings under RMSA & SSA and directed the CEO to get the work done within stipulated time so as to utilize cent per cent funds available under these schemes.

DC Baramulla Inspects Govt Offices, Developmental Works

District Development Commissioner, Baramulla Dr Nasir Naqash along with a team of officers today inspected various on-going developmental works being executed under core sectors in district.

He also inspected schools, government offices and health centers in Tehsil Boniyar of Sub Division Uri.

Dr Naqash stated that development and welfare of people of district Baramulla is on the top priority and every possible measure will be taken in this regard to ensure that all the services are placed at the doorsteps of the people.

Inspecting tehsil complex Boniyar, the DDC checked tehsil office record   and interacted with the public. He listened the public grievances patiently and assured that their genuine grievances would be looked into and redressed at the earliest.

District Development Commissioner inspected the construction work of court complex on which Rs 150 lakh stands expended against at an estimated cost of Rs 398 lakh.

The District Development Commissioner emphasized the concerned officials that the remaining portion of work should also get completed within the given time period and in this regard more efforts have to be put on.

Later, the District Development Commissioner inspected construction work of Boniyar Bridge which is being executed by R&B at an estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 3.95 crore.

An amount of Rs one crore stands expended on the construction of bridge and with the completion of this bridge, people of Trikanjan, Maidanan, Banali, Chautaliaya, Dudran, Darakhojan, Bachhi villages get benefitted.

Taking a serious note on slow pace of work on foot bridge, the  District Development Commissioner exhorted upon the executing agencies to expedite the pace of work ensuring its timely completion, saying that  the bridge is a single connecting link for number of adjacent villages with population of over 10000  souls.

Meanwhile, the District Development Commissioner paid surprise visit to Government Primary Health Centre Boniyar where he interacted with the patients and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.

The concerned authorities apprised the District Development Commissioner about the various issues with regard to the functioning of the hospital.

Responding to their problems, the District Development Commissioner assured them that every kind of help will be provided by the district administration so that the public do not face any inconvenience.

Earlier CEO Baramulla and ZEOs of Uri sub-division apprised District Development Commissioner about functional status of schools.

It was informed that almost 90 per cent schools remain open during these days and more than 50 per cent of students are present in schools.

District Development Commissioner directed the CEO, ZEOs and Principals to ensure that both the teachers and students should attend the schools and try their best to complete the syllabus. He also directed CEO to monitor the functioning of schools and submit report on regular basis.

Taking tough stand on absenteeism and the work culture, the District Development Commissioner directed SDM Uri and Tehsildar Boniyar to pay regular visit of offices within their jurisdiction and monitor their attendance and seek explanation from the absentees. He instructed the officials that in case of any deviation of the instructions, strict action shall be taken under rules.
