The abuse, thrashing and beating of Kashmiri students in mainland India seem to have no end.

As Kashmir still remains on edge on 82nd consecutive day on Wednesday, Kashmiri students of a Haryana based college were threatened, abused and beaten by their non-Kashmiri counterparts despite assurances of security by the Union government.

Kashmir Life received many messages and phone calls from the frightened and grieved students detailing the frightful, incident.

“As routine,” a student wishing not to be identified told Kashmir Life over phone, “Kashmiri students and their counterparts were sitting in college campus and discussing routine affairs.”

At least 80 students from J&K study in Ganga Institute of Technology and Management, Kablana Jhajjar in Haryana. They have been selected by AICTE under Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme which was recently reviewed by the Union Home Minister in New Delhi.

“Some students from Bihar started abusing us called us by names including terming us as ‘terrorists’,” the student said.

This, the students said, “led to tu-tu mein mein”. “The verbal dual intensified and teachers rushed to the college campus around 10 PM.”

The students said that the teachers ensured the Kashmiri students “fool-proof security in any case”.

“However, when the teachers left, we resumed our routine,” the student said. “Some Kashmiri students went for dining in the college mess where the non-Kashmiri students started beating them with some sharp edged instrument in their hands,” the students said, “one Kashmiri student was injured and we rushed him to hospital.”

The said student, name withheld, is injured in eye and some others were injured in their arms.

“When Kashmiri students started protesting against the murderous assault the college security men started beating us,” the student said. “Even College warden thrashed us without even listening us.”

On Wednesday, all the students sat on a protest demonstration. “In protest to biased approach, we are not sitting in exams today as a mark of protest,” the students said.
