J&K Government has imposed curfew in South Kashmir’s Qaimoh and central Kashmir’s Khag areas in view of freedom marches and rallies scheduled by the local populace.

Reports coming from Qaimoh area in Kulgam district said that huge number of forces including garmy, police and CRPF men have been deployed since early Wednesday morning. All routes have been ceased by spreading concertina wires.

“Early in the morning as the dawn approached we saw CRPF police and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) men all over the area,” said a local. “We are not allowed to come outside our houses as there is complete clampdown.”

This is first time in the current mass uprising that forces have foiled such a rally in Qaimoh area. Earlier, militants had also addressed a rally in Rudwani area on 14 August.

In central Kashmir, forces laid siege around Khag in Budgam district.

Contingents of army, police and CRPF have been deployed in the area to foil the proposed “Khag chalo’. All the entry points of the area have been sealed by the forces.

Restrictions were imposed to “maintain law and order” in the wake of the call by the resistance leadership.
