Traders, transporters, hoteliers, fruit growers and construction contractors on Tuesday strongly condemned the arrest of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) co-Chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar.

The chief spokesperson of Kashmir economic alliance Mohammad Sadiq Ronga said that a meeting of KEA expressed concern over the arrest of Dar and equates “it with direct war against the business class”.

Police arrested Dar on Sunday after KEA after he finished a press conference at Lal Chowk.

Ronga said, “Farooq Dar was driving back to his home after the press conference when police stopped his vehicle and arrested him.”

KEA has been vocal against the civilian killings in Kashmir, trade said in a statement.

“They are arresting business leaders as business community has condemned civilian killings and observed continuous shutdown to protest the killing spree,” said Ronga.

The statement said that KEA also organized medial camps at SMHS hospital and distributed medicine among the injured youth admitted in the hospital.
