The Department of Tourism organized a function in connection with World Tourism Day here on Tuesday. The aim of celebrating the day was to foster awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

The event was chaired by Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah and was attended by Deputy Director Tourism, Peerzada Zahoor, Principal Institute of Hotel Management Srinagar and local stakeholders, an official spokesperson said this evening.

During the function, the Department of Tourism said it will strive to promote the State in all the travel marts in India and abroad. The members in the meeting also discussed about planning a comprehensive roadmap for the tourism promotion.

The stakeholders pledged to promote Kashmir nationally and internationally and said they would provide suggestions to the Government and the Tourism Department so that Kashmir becomes a preferred tourist destination.

To woo tourists, the Tourism Department has embarked on tourism promotional campaigns. Earlier also, the Department participated in the travel marts in Ahmadabad, Surat and Kolkata to promote Kashmir tourism.

Spokesman of the Department said that the Department will also participate in the upcoming travel exhibitions including TTF Delhi in September, BITG in October and also attend Buddhist conclave.

He said they are distributing publicity material highlighting tourism potential of the state including leisure, pilgrimage, adventure, heritage, golf and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions tourism (MICE).In the Buddhist Conclave, the Tourism Department is going to showcase the Buddhist potential of the State, he added.
