Five shops were damaged in a fire incident in Baramulla last evening, police said on Tuesday afternoon.

“Fire broke out at main market Baramulla near general bus stand, in which five shops were gutted completely. Fire was brought under control by fire tenders with the assistance of police and locals of the area,” police said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the police said that two drug peddlers were held and poppy straw was recovered in Kulgam.

“During naka checking, police, intercepted a Santro vehicle bearing registration number Jk03B-2772 at Frisal. On its checking police recovered 13.5 Kgs of Poppy straw. Two people identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Tantarypora, Yaripora and Mohammad Abbass Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Tengbal who were travelling in the car have been taken into custody. Kulgam police have registered a case FIR number 110/2016 under section 8/15 NDPS Act in police station Yaripora and further investigation has been taken up,” the police statement said.
