Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari, day convened a meeting to review performance of various developmental works in Baramulla.

He also reviewed arrangements being put in place for observing Muharram in the district, an official spokesperson said this evening.

The Minister directed Baramulla District Administration to put in all possible efforts for ensuring smooth and peaceful Muharram by providing essential commodities, adequate electric power supply, drinking water supply, medicare and firewood to the people particularly in Shia dominated areas of the district.

He also stressed for repair of roads leading to Imambaras.

He directed officials of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department to make adequate arrangements for supply of ration, sugar and LPG during the month.

The Minister also directed Municipal authorities for ensuring sanitation, cleanliness and hygiene in and around the places of congregation in Shia dominance areas and asked the Rural Development Department authorities to supplement their support in sanitation and establishing ablution rooms, wherever necessary.

Earlier, the Minister took a brief review of developmental projects under various Departments in the district. He asked the officers to gear up men and machinery to speed up pace of developmental works.

He said that works undertaken in convergence with Departments like Irrigation & Flood and Control, R&B, Fisheries and others should be identified on priority basis and their speedy completion should be ensured. In this regard, he maintained that the plans should be envisaged keeping in view area specific developmental needs for creating durable assets.

Emphasizing the role of education, the Minister said that education is the backbone of any modern society. He said that teachers have to play a pivotal role in making the schools functional in their respective localities.

He appreciated officers of the district for rendering commendable service in tough times. Earlier the DC Baramulla briefed the Minister regarding the overall law and order situation, status of essential services and various developmental activities undergoing in the district.
