The divisional administration announced a two-hour relaxation in curfew from Kishtwar on Monday evening.

Curfew was imposed in the Chenab valley district on Sunday morning following massive clashes against arrests and night raids by police, CRPF and SSB.

Sources said that senior officials held a meeting Kishtwar district today in which it was decided that there shall relaxation in restrictions imposed by the government.

DIG Chenab Valley zone, DC and SSP Kishtwar, and other senior civil and police officials were present in the meeting which decided to lift curfew for two hours from 4 PM to 6 PM today.

“The district has witnessed calm so it was decided to give relaxation in the curfew today,” an official said, “the security situation will be accordingly reviewed later.”

A police jeep moved through major town of the district announced the “deal” in curfew.

The government had to impose curfew when police raided some areas during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday to arrest some persons charged under sedition. However, when people came to know about, they came out of their beds and held pro-freedom protests and resorted to stone pelting. Forces had to use tear gas shelling around 1:30 AM in the night.

Similarly, last night, protests again erupted when forces raided the area. One government employee was, however, arrested.

Police are looking for over three dozen persons involved in “anti-India” activities. At least twenty such persons have been booked under sedition and two have been booked and lodged under ‘lawless law’ Public Safety Act, so far.
