Hours ahead of Foreign Minister Ms Sushma Swaraj’s speech in the United Nations on Monday, scores of Non-Resident Kashmiris held protest in the United States (US) and outside United Nations office in Geneva.

In the latest protest calendar, the resistance leadership had asked NRKs and “friends of Kashmir Freedom Struggle” to march towards UN Headquarters and Indian Embassies all over world including Pakistan and ‘Azad’ Kashmir on the day when India speaks at 71st UN General Assembly Session.

Kashmiris settled in the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland gathered near the Broken Chair in front of United Nations building in Geneva and raised slogans, condemning the “atrocities committed by the Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir.”

In Los Angeles, the Kashmiri diaspora organised a protest march outside a prominent news organization.

Scores of NRKs carried banners with pictures of pellet victims injured during the current uprising and demanded an immediate end to pellet guns in Kashmir.

“They highlighted the atrocities being committed in Kashmir and expressed resentment over silence of international media on the current uprising in Kashmir,” NRKs said in a statement. “They demanded immediate end to state terrorism in Kashmir in which around hundred civilian protesters have been killed, hundreds have lost their eyes and thousands have been maimed and injured.”

In Geneva, the leaders of different Kashmiri groups and parties condemned the detention of prominent human rights activist Khurram Parvez and demanded his release.

The speakers also expressed solidarity with the besieged people of Kashmir and appealed to the International community to send the fact finding mission to Kashmir as early as possible.

They also hailed the statement of Human Rights Commissioner in which he expressed his deep concern over the “excessive use of force of Indian State on peaceful and unarmed protesters in internationally recognized disputed territory Jammu and Kashmir”.
