Two more injured persons have succumbed to their injuries at SKIMS Soura taking the death toll in Gurez accident to seven, so far.

A vehicle carrying 17-18 persons had skidded off the track and fallen in to a deep gorge in Tragbal area on way to Bandipora from Gurez late Friday night.

The vehicle belonged to Beacon and the persons on board the carrier worked with the major road constructing agency.

“Police and officials from Beacon on rescue mission,” a police official from Bandipora Police Control Room told Kashmir Life, however, he added, “the rescue team is facing communication problem.”

Gurez, a valley between Bandipora and Ladakh region bordering Pakistan on its North has a massive military concentration “because of its location”.

The Gurez valley remains cut off from mainland Kashmir for major part of the year due to heavy rains and snowfall besides there is network problem. Given the terrain of Gurez valley, people here rely only on BSNL phones and that too not in all parts of the valley.

“Some injured persons have been shifted to SKIMS Soura,” the official said but could not give complete details. “You know, tele-communication does not work properly because of which we too are facing problems to know exact and complete details.” The official said that Tragbal is situated near to Bandipora district headquarter meaning there are no such major problems in rescue operation.

He said two of the injured persons admitted in SKIMS have succumbed.

An official from SKIMS Soura told Kashmir Life that it received five injured persons of whom three are still in the hospital. The official hung the phone in hurry without giving further details.
